Please Touch Museum likes to celebrate the birthday of a significant children's book author or illustrator. We honor these birthdays by offering storytimes of the author’s books in the Story Castle at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. As a special treat, one of the author’s characters makes an appearance at the storytimes, too! Celebrated authors include Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Rosemary Wells, among many others. The celebration also expands into the Program Room, where an art activity is featured to enhance the experience, and to add depth and dimension to children’s experience of the author’s work.
Why celebrate author birthdays? Birthdays are important occasions for young children, and as they learn that everyone has a birthday to celebrate, this commonality offers an avenue to explore the lives and work of prominent authors and illustrators.
